About Lumbini

Lumbini is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District of Lumbini Province in Nepal. It is located 281.7 km away from Kathmandu via Prithvi Highway and Mahendra Highway. From Tansen, it takes 2 hours and 7 minutes by road, covering a distance of 79.8 km.

It is the place where, according to Buddhist tradition, Queen Maya gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama around 566 BC. Gautama, who, according to Buddhist tradition, achieved Enlightenment around 528 BCE, became Shakyamuni Buddha and founded Buddhism. Lumbini is one of many magnets for pilgrimage that sprang up in places pivotal to the life of the Buddha.

Lumbini has a number of old temples, including the Mayadevi Temple, and several new temples, funded by Buddhist organizations from various countries. Most of the temples have already been completed, and some are still under construction. Many monuments, monasteries, a museum, and the Lumbini International Research Institute are also within the holy site. Additionally, there is the Puskarini, or Holy Pond, where Mayadevi, the Buddha's mother, is believed to have taken the ritual dip before his birth and where he also had his first bath. At other sites near Lumbini, earlier Buddhas were, according to tradition, born, achieved ultimate Enlightenment, and finally relinquished their earthly forms. The Government of Bangladesh is currently constructing a major Buddhist Monastery in Lumbini.

Day 1: Kathmandu to Pokhara

Morning departure from Kathmandu (7-8 hours drive via Prithvi Highway and Mid-Hill Highway covering 201.2 km of distance).

Arrive in Pokhara around 4-5 pm in the evening.

Explore Phewa Lake and Lakeside.

Visit World Peace Pagoda (if time permits).

Overnight stay in Pokhara.

Day 2: Pokhara to Palpa

Morning visit to Sarangkot.

Departure for Palpa, a 4-hour drive from Pokhara via Siddhartha Highway , covering a distance of 117.1 km.
